Omiot Gowe

African Art Shona Sculpture - Omiot GoweOmiot Gowe was born into a family of seven in 1970, at Mutoko in Mashonaland West.

One of the first things noticeable about Omiot is his quiet pride. He has a way about him that will immediately put you at ease.

He is the nephew of Joel and Jonathan Nhete, and it was Joel who encouraged Omiot to join him in 1999 to learn the art of sculpting.

He is still working with Joel and still learning, but has shown imagination and a high degree of skill.

All of his art is abstract, and is fond of sculpting flowers and human figures in opal and springstone.

In 1998, Omiot married Sosca and between them, have two children, a boy, Owen born in 1999, and a girl, Evelyn, born in 2000.
