African Art Shona Sculpture - Kuda Kapuyanyika

Kuda, as he is known, was born in the rural town of Guruve where he spent his primary school years.

Because of financial hardships, his family could not afford the fees for him to attend secondary school.

He began sculpting after being inspired by the late Brighton Sango, who is a well-known figure in the Shona Sculpture art movement.

After the death of his father, Kuda realised he was now responsible for the family and decided to come to the capital, Harare, in 1991 to further his skill.

He is now a full time sculptor with collectors taking his art to many countries.

Kuda is skilled in most stone types, but prefers black serpentine and springstone.
