John Type

African Art Shona Sculpture - John TypeJohn Type was born in the Marondera hospital to a family of three girls and three boys, in 1972.

As with many artists, John showed an above average interest and ability in any form of art.

John’s father is from Malawi and his mother comes from the rural area of Chiota in Zimbabwe and John is the only member of his family to show an artistic ability - an ability he has in abundance.

His style is abstract and shows incredible imagination and spirituality.

John started sculpting in 1989 with Kennedy Migeal and was further encouraged by Roy Guthrie, the curator of the famous Chapungu Gallery in Harare.

His work has been sent to many countries including USA, Canada, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Australia and United Kingdom.

He and his wife Georgina were married in 1999 and have one girl, Millicent, who was born in 2000.
