Godfrey Chisahwira

African Art Shona Sculpture - Godfrey ChisahwiraGodfrey was born the area of Murehwa, Zimbabwe in 1971.

During 1987 his uncle, Edmore Kashiri, started to give him lessons in becoming a sculptor.

Godfrey is very skilled in carving animals like warthog, hippo, elephant, rhino and buffalo in stones like Verdite, Butter Jade and Springstone.

He likes to carve small as he says there are a number of good carvers who carve larger, but very few who can carve with his detail on sculptures as small as the ones he likes.

He married his wife, Faith, in 1993 and has one girl and two boys, but apart from his family, his interest revolves around his work.
