Farai Nyakanyanza

African Art Shona Sculpture - Farai NyakanyanzaFarai was born into a large family of nine children consisting of six girls and three boys, two months after the death of his father.

The family originated from Mozambique from the Sena tribe.

While growing up in Chitungwiza, he developed a strong interest is stone sculpturing.

He attended the Farai Primary  school in Chitungwiza and secondary school Seke but was often found practising his skill after school hours.

Unlike many other artists, he decided to practise on the hard stones like Springstone, Cobalt and Opalstone, instead of the softer Soapstone.
