Assan Ritchie

African Art Shona Sculpture - Assan RitchieBorn in the Hurungwe district in 1975, Assan began sculpting at 18 after being given a chance to work with Moses Masaya for two years.

Family tragedies have influenced much of Assan’s work which frequently has themes relating to human relationships and personal feelings.

Having great respect for the first generation Shona sculptors, he feels the new style of art expresses what the artist feels in a more direct manner.

In 2003, he married Shingu and they now live in Chitungwiza.
